Welcome to the Spring Semester!!

Hope everyone had a good, restful break!!

A few reminders going forward...

Be sure you are signing and in and out of TimeClock.  Also remember that you still need to enter your time into SAP.

You MUST fill out a form for all equipment! (cameras, microphones, etc.). It's important for tracking components, but also as a defense if someone wants to dispute a fine -- when a borrower fills out and signs a form they are acknowledging that they are responsible for any loss, damage or fines.  It is also important that all forms are signed when equipment is returned.

In the next few weeks I will be posting video tutorials to the blog.  The first will be on basic register operation and will be coming soon.

Have a good week! Try to stay warm and dry!!

Winding down...

Last week before finals begin!  Hope everyone is getting plenty of sleep and doing what you can to de-stress!

As finals near, there will be more calls for calculators, headphones, phone chargers and - of course - laptops!  Please be mindful of handing out time due slips!  Also, when checking out a phone charger, please be sure to remind the patron to return the bag with the charger.  That bag has all the information on it needed for circulating the item.

I've posted a blank schedule for everyone to write in their preferred work schedule for spring. Each block is 1/2 hour so remember that as you sign up.  I require that everyone take at least 1.5 hour shifts and be mindful of your "travel time" to and from class.  I also need spring class schedules!  I've only gotten a few!

As the semester winds down, there will be a lot of materials returned to us.  We need to work on keeping up with the shelving!  Currently it's being done by only a couple of people, so it tends to pile up. Everyone -even the evening shifts - needs to pitch in!  I know the desk gets busy and we are a bit shorthanded at the moment, but when there are slow periods SHELVE!

Therapy Dogs will be here next week!!!  Monday 12/9, 1pm-3pm and Tuesday 12/10, 1pm-3pm!
If you can, come get some puppy love!!

CDs, DVDs, Equipment - Oh My!

Did you know that there quite a few Juvenile books and kits that have CDs or DVDs in them?  Yep!  For example, there are a couple of the Harry Potter series titles that are "Book with audio". There are quite a few Juvenile titles that have CDs included.

Also a lot of kits have accompanying CDs or DVDs as well as some of the TCMC. Sierra will flag any of these with CHECK FOR:...  messages.  What is important to note -- most of these discs will NOT be housed in the DVD or CD cabinets -- they will be in the book or box that they accompany.  It is very important that you pay attention to these messages, because if any components are missing, I need to know about it.  The item can still be checked out to the patron, but I will need to annotate the record so the patron will not be responsible for missing components. And it is probably a good idea to check the cabinets anyway in case the discs were filed by mistake.

We will be moving some of the older or bulkier pieces of equipment to the storage room within the next few days.  The storage room (304B) is at the end of the hallway behind the office (same hallway as the Comm Lab). It can be opened with the 304A key.  Please be sure the door remains locked at all times!  It has be to locked with the key.  Eventually, we will put a message in Sierra that informs you that a piece is in there, but for now -- it you don't see it, check the store room.

BTW, do all of you know how to look for equipment status without going in search of it?
It's really easy and can save you some time -
In Sierra from Search/Holds, search by Author for equipment.

From there you can open a list of  - for example, cameras - and will get a list of all the camera and their status - either available, missing, date due, etc.

You can also perform the same search in the catalog.
Doing this could save you the effort of searching to see if an item is here or checkout.

Stay warm and dry!!
