Welcome to the new blog!

Hi Everyone!!

I finally got around to creating a blog to represent our new combined service desk!  Yay!!  :-D

I won't be posting here every day but will try to post at least once or twice a week -- or as things come up.

Some reminders:
·       Always give out time due slips for secured and reserved items. Remember to subtract about 5 minutes from the due time that is posted by Sierra.  The laptop time slips are already printed with the statement that they are due back 1 hour before closing...

·       Calculators - technically they don't leave the library.  However, we do let them out for exams or quizzes. We do not, however, let them out just to use in class.

·       Laptops - Early on we were told by one person to not plug in the blue network cord when returning the computer to the cabinet - at least not until the end of the day.  Subsequently personnel have informed us that we should be plugging in the network cord as well as the power cord.  Doing so may give us less wi fi connectivity issues... so we'll go ahead and plug the blue cords in!  Also, at the start of each day, we need to be checking the previous day's checkout forms to see if any laptops are overdue.

·       Holds - we need to be very, very careful when checking in materials that we are paying attention as to whether that item has a hold on it.  Be sure to print the hold slip and place the item on John's table near our office.

·       Walking the floor.  I know we are all busy, but this needs to be done more frequently.  Take a stroll around the floor and look for books or other materials that are laying on tables, carts, chairs, etc. Pick them up and bring them back to the office for recording Internal Count Use.  This is also a good time to shelve any new current periodicals that may been brought up by cataloging...

·         Collection Maintenance - again, I know it gets busy at the service counter, but during lulls you need to be working on dusting, straightening, shelf-reading and working on missing lists. It seems a lot to ask, but keeping the collections maintained is just very important.

That's it for now! Have a great weekend and try to stay cool!!
